Watermelon Agua Fresca with Lime and Mint

Remember last week when I brattily exclaimed, “I want one!” after seeing my auntie Marcy’s Lifefactory glass bottle? Well, guess what? I got one. And guess what else? I have one for one of you, too, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Upon returning from Albany, I started researching Lifefactory, and it came as no surprise that one of the company’s co-founders, Daren Joy, is an award-winning designer and architect.
In a video on the site, Daren briefly discusses his design process and observes that “there is a connection that gets formed almost immediately,” noting that people “know they love [the bottle] right when they first touch it.” Perhaps my reaction wasn’t so bratty after all: the instant desire to have one was simply the sign of successful design.
As I suspected, I am loving my Lifefactory glass bottle. After a week of heavy use, I have yet to open my shoulder bag to find my phone lying in a pool of water — success! — and I have yet to find myself at the sink trying to scrub away a fungal smell from the opening — success! The glass delivers such a clean, pure taste. Moreover, thanks to the silicone sleeve, the bottle has survived several crash tests — the kids are as drawn to the bottle as I am — down our asphalt driveway.
The more I read about the founders and their philosophy, the more taken I become. Pam Marcus, Lifefactory’s other co-founder, worked as a pediatric physical therapist and feeding specialist for 17 years. Her concerns about the presence of harmful chemicals and plastics in infant feeding systems inspired her to create a line of glass baby bottles.
Not only are the bottles BPA-, BPS-, and phthalate-free, they are designed to “perform for years to come” — I love this. The line of bottles now extends to toddlers and adults, but before I start sounding like a bad infomercial, I’ll stop here and let you poke around the Lifefactory site yourself. Go on, that perfect water bottle is just a click away.
Now for the giveaway: Lifefactory will send one of you (US shipping only) one of their beautiful, glass, chemical-free bottles for water, juice and smoothies. Just leave a comment below. I’d love to hear what juices and smoothies you have been concocting these days. I’ve been on a watermelon-agua-fresca kick. On Sunday, I picked up two large watermelons at the Stafford farmers’ market, and, thanks to my new glass bottle, I have been enjoying agua fresca on the go ever since. I have never felt more stylish or hydrated in my life. Thank you, Lifefactory.
Watermelon Agua Fresca
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 2 servings
Description
Adapted from: The Garden of Eden
Ingredients
- 8 cups watermelon, cubed and puréed (approximately 6 cups after blending)
- 4 cups sparkling water or tap water (I use sparkling)
- 1 to 2 limes
- sugar to taste, depending on the sweetness of the watermelon
- mint sprigs for serving
Instructions
- In a food processor or blender, whizz the watermelon to a purée. It’s best to do this in two batches. Strain mixture into a large pitcher. Add water and stir. Juice one lime into the pitcher and stir to mix. Taste. Add the additional lime if desired. (I always add the juice of two limes.) Taste. Add sugar by the tablespoon if necessary. Chill until ready to serve.
- When ready to serve, place mint sprigs and ice (optional) in serving glasses. Pour in agua fresca. Enjoy!

Theses bottles are great! I’ve been making the blackberry-sage soda syrup that I like to add to club soda. It’s a recipe I found in Sunset mag.
I would like to have one of these cause when you use plastic they tend to retain the smell and is hard to get rid of. Can please tell me how to get one? Thanks
I would LOVE one (or six!!!) of these as well! I am a letter carrier for the USPS and need to carry lots of water in the truck with me. These would be PERFECT!!! Thanks for the opportunity to win one. I have a green smoothie for breakfast every day…
I need to kick the diet soda HABIT…. I like the recipe you posted above. With a sparkling water and a few other flavors added, I think I could do it. The bottle would be SWEET! Thank you for sharing your recipe Watermelon Agua Fresca. Love your recipes!!
I, too, have been admiring these Lifefactory bottles, but only from afar. I’m so afraid I will break it!
I got a vitamix a few months ago, so i’ve been throwing every fruit and veggie in the house into that thing to make smoothies morning and night! Love it!
I’ve been drinking lots of water with lemon or lime in it! I drink water all day long at work, so this would be perfect! Thanks for the chance at winning it!
smoothy: wild organic blueberry, pineapple, banana, wheatgrass, wheat germ, chia seed, baby spinach, coconut water, organic apple juice.
Yum! That looks so good!
And I have wanted one of these bottles for ever!
Recently I am on a spinach/mango smoothie kick. 😉
I’ve been on a green smoothie kick all summer – and have had my eye on a Lifefactory bottle even longer!
Pureed strawberry, basil and watermelon has been my new obsession! It is delicious!
just trying to drink enough water to stay hydrated on these hot summer days!
That is a cute bottle!
My mom just emailed me about these bottles last week, it fate! We both always have our water bottles with us, and I have started to notice the funk that my stainless steel bottle produces, and I only use it for water.
I’m really enjoying anything with spinach, kale, and pineapple right now!
Thanks for this! I love watermelon aqua fresca but I had kind of forgotten about its existence since last summer. Time to make a pitcher!
Andrea Reusing has a wonderful recipe for watermelon jell-o with gin in Cooking in the Moment!

Thanks again for a fabulous looking recipe! I’m attempting a garden for the first time this year and have been blending beet leaves in with my green smoothies. The glass bottles look great and your recommendation is enough for me!
I love peach smoothies!
I have mint in my garden that I’ve been using in combination with fresh fruit to make my water and smoothies extra refreshing.
I just love these bottles. I have had my eye on them at whole foods for awhile.
I’ve been using mint from my garden and fresh fruit to make extra refreshing water and smoothies 🙂
We’ve been taking advantage of all the fresh mint from our garden in our smoothies this summer! This morning, my husband and I had a blueberry, vanilla mint smoothie. So, so, good with fresh, frozen blueberries, coconut milk, vanilla protein powder, fresh mint and apple. We’ve just been talking about how much we’d like to try glass bottles as opposed to the plastic ones we received with our smoothie blender. Sounds great! Will def ck out Lifefactory!
Water water water! Also have been loving green smoothies.
I may not be as stylish as those at the gym with their Lululemon, but with a lifefactory glass bottle, I can be part of the cool kids’ club, too 😀
i’ve only been drinking of water but now i’m thinking of switching to agua fresca!
I am training for a marathon and I am terrible at hydrating during the week I would love to have one of these as inspiration. I have also been making lots of smoothies today I made parsley, raspberry and orange. It was delicious. Can’t wait to try the watermelon aqua fresca.
Omg! That watermelon juice looks incredible. I’ve been trying to work with peaches, and added it to my usual strawberry lemonade spritzer. It makes me so happy that it’s summer time!! Maybe I can add some mint too…
Living in Florida, you always have a drink in hand, trying to stay hydrated, while out and about. My favorite drink of choice is a Hibiscus tea with fresh berries!
