Watermelon Agua Fresca with Lime and Mint

Remember last week when I brattily exclaimed, “I want one!” after seeing my auntie Marcy’s Lifefactory glass bottle? Well, guess what? I got one. And guess what else? I have one for one of you, too, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Upon returning from Albany, I started researching Lifefactory, and it came as no surprise that one of the company’s co-founders, Daren Joy, is an award-winning designer and architect.
In a video on the site, Daren briefly discusses his design process and observes that “there is a connection that gets formed almost immediately,” noting that people “know they love [the bottle] right when they first touch it.” Perhaps my reaction wasn’t so bratty after all: the instant desire to have one was simply the sign of successful design.
As I suspected, I am loving my Lifefactory glass bottle. After a week of heavy use, I have yet to open my shoulder bag to find my phone lying in a pool of water — success! — and I have yet to find myself at the sink trying to scrub away a fungal smell from the opening — success! The glass delivers such a clean, pure taste. Moreover, thanks to the silicone sleeve, the bottle has survived several crash tests — the kids are as drawn to the bottle as I am — down our asphalt driveway.
The more I read about the founders and their philosophy, the more taken I become. Pam Marcus, Lifefactory’s other co-founder, worked as a pediatric physical therapist and feeding specialist for 17 years. Her concerns about the presence of harmful chemicals and plastics in infant feeding systems inspired her to create a line of glass baby bottles.
Not only are the bottles BPA-, BPS-, and phthalate-free, they are designed to “perform for years to come” — I love this. The line of bottles now extends to toddlers and adults, but before I start sounding like a bad infomercial, I’ll stop here and let you poke around the Lifefactory site yourself. Go on, that perfect water bottle is just a click away.
Now for the giveaway: Lifefactory will send one of you (US shipping only) one of their beautiful, glass, chemical-free bottles for water, juice and smoothies. Just leave a comment below. I’d love to hear what juices and smoothies you have been concocting these days. I’ve been on a watermelon-agua-fresca kick. On Sunday, I picked up two large watermelons at the Stafford farmers’ market, and, thanks to my new glass bottle, I have been enjoying agua fresca on the go ever since. I have never felt more stylish or hydrated in my life. Thank you, Lifefactory.

- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 2 servings
Description
Adapted from: The Garden of Eden
Ingredients
- 8 cups watermelon, cubed and puréed (approximately 6 cups after blending)
- 4 cups sparkling water or tap water (I use sparkling)
- 1 to 2 limes
- sugar to taste, depending on the sweetness of the watermelon
- mint sprigs for serving
Instructions
- In a food processor or blender, whizz the watermelon to a purée. It’s best to do this in two batches. Strain mixture into a large pitcher. Add water and stir. Juice one lime into the pitcher and stir to mix. Taste. Add the additional lime if desired. (I always add the juice of two limes.) Taste. Add sugar by the tablespoon if necessary. Chill until ready to serve.

I am loving plain water or seltzer with lots and lots of slices of cucumber or watermelon and mint. I would love one of your fabulous bottles. I misplaced my favorite one and in desperate need of a replacement.
These bottles are great! Smoothies for me – a banana is almost a must for the creamy factor. For juicing, beet-carrot-apple-ginger is my ultimate fave.
I also have the bad habit of drinking too much soda and the recipe you posted is the perfect replacement. I’m a fan of citrus smoothies. Lemon, orange… so refreshing. That bottle looks awesome.
I saw my co-worker started using one awhile ago. I was immediately caught by the beautiful design. I am glad to find out finally what the brand is today!
I think one of these pretty bottles would make anything taste better!! I love mint iced tea!!
I adore “traditional” smoothies made with greek yogurt, coconut water, fruit – fresh or frozen – and oatmeal, flax seed, maybe some greens … yum!! I’m a nut for ice water, tho … pregnancy has me chugging it out of 20+ oz spaghetti sauce jars all day long 😉 I need a style upgrade! hahah
My cousin has me hooked on her spinach, kale, pineapple blueberry smoothies. So good!
Not sure if my comment went thru or not =/ I don’t see it! Lovin’ on some traditional smoothies w/greek yogurt, coconut water, fresh or frozen fruit and greens, flax seed, you name it!
Ohhh my!!!!!!!!!!!! I need one of those! At least once a week I end up with my bag drowned:)))))) I would especially need it for my baby boy! …filled with “zumo de naranjas rojas” and ginger!
Watermelon juice, plain and simple! It doesn’t need much else to shine. 🙂
I haven’t been making smoothies lately, but I froze a bunch of organic peaches that would be good.
I was just looking at these this weekend!! I would love one
Oh I love these! I usually drink my water out of a mason jar, but these are much more stylish:)
I haven’t been juicing, but what I am doing is adding a wedge of fresh watermelon to my plain iced tea and it’s very tasty!
Mostly coconut water/milk based with bananas and berries and greens! Yum.

Yes please!
I’ve been drinking lots of water lately, but I’ll have to give the watermelon agua fresca recipe a try.
I love agua fresca, too! Anything with melons — honeydew, cantaloupe, melon. I also dig pineapple.
I live on your blog. Incredible recipes and enticing photography! I’m feeling inspired. I will be experimenting with my own agua fresca ideas soon. 🙂 We’re completely hooked on La Croix coconut flavor at our house.
I want one too! I just drink a lot of water, I’m almost too lazy to drink anything else.
I don’t typically drink smoothies, but I saw a great recipe on Pinterest for flavored water, using sage and blackberries. Sounds pretty incredible! I’d love to try it out this summer in one of these water bottles.
I have been making smoothies with Coconut Chia Kefir, 1/2 a frozen banana, some pineapple or mango and a spoonful of vanilla protein powder – yummy breakfast!
I have been thinking about buying one of those water bottles! I have been enjoying smoothies made with juice, yogurt and whatever fruit I have on hand. They hit the spot after a morning playing tennis. P.S. I LOVE your website! I am so happy I found it!
Would love this stylish bottle! Am hooked on “smoothies on the go”!
Oh how I’d love one! I hate plastic bottles and I could take this to the pool worry free!
I’d love to put some cucumber, mint, lemon water in one of those snazzy bottles!
Those bottles look awesome! Love the colors! I’ve been making lemonade and popcicles out of fruit and yogurt.
Ooh, nice! I’ve just been adding Pomegranate to everything–lemonade, limeade, tea, etc. No fancy smoothies.
It’s been a while since I’ve made a new or exciting smoothie, but I definitely need to get back to it now that we have a decent blender!
