Watermelon Agua Fresca with Lime and Mint

Remember last week when I brattily exclaimed, “I want one!” after seeing my auntie Marcy’s Lifefactory glass bottle? Well, guess what? I got one. And guess what else? I have one for one of you, too, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Upon returning from Albany, I started researching Lifefactory, and it came as no surprise that one of the company’s co-founders, Daren Joy, is an award-winning designer and architect.
In a video on the site, Daren briefly discusses his design process and observes that “there is a connection that gets formed almost immediately,” noting that people “know they love [the bottle] right when they first touch it.” Perhaps my reaction wasn’t so bratty after all: the instant desire to have one was simply the sign of successful design.
As I suspected, I am loving my Lifefactory glass bottle. After a week of heavy use, I have yet to open my shoulder bag to find my phone lying in a pool of water — success! — and I have yet to find myself at the sink trying to scrub away a fungal smell from the opening — success! The glass delivers such a clean, pure taste. Moreover, thanks to the silicone sleeve, the bottle has survived several crash tests — the kids are as drawn to the bottle as I am — down our asphalt driveway.
The more I read about the founders and their philosophy, the more taken I become. Pam Marcus, Lifefactory’s other co-founder, worked as a pediatric physical therapist and feeding specialist for 17 years. Her concerns about the presence of harmful chemicals and plastics in infant feeding systems inspired her to create a line of glass baby bottles.
Not only are the bottles BPA-, BPS-, and phthalate-free, they are designed to “perform for years to come” — I love this. The line of bottles now extends to toddlers and adults, but before I start sounding like a bad infomercial, I’ll stop here and let you poke around the Lifefactory site yourself. Go on, that perfect water bottle is just a click away.
Now for the giveaway: Lifefactory will send one of you (US shipping only) one of their beautiful, glass, chemical-free bottles for water, juice and smoothies. Just leave a comment below. I’d love to hear what juices and smoothies you have been concocting these days. I’ve been on a watermelon-agua-fresca kick. On Sunday, I picked up two large watermelons at the Stafford farmers’ market, and, thanks to my new glass bottle, I have been enjoying agua fresca on the go ever since. I have never felt more stylish or hydrated in my life. Thank you, Lifefactory.
PrintWatermelon Agua Fresca
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 2 servings
Description
Adapted from: The Garden of Eden
Ingredients
- 8 cups watermelon, cubed and puréed (approximately 6 cups after blending)
- 4 cups sparkling water or tap water (I use sparkling)
- 1 to 2 limes
- sugar to taste, depending on the sweetness of the watermelon
- mint sprigs for serving
Instructions
- In a food processor or blender, whizz the watermelon to a purée. It’s best to do this in two batches. Strain mixture into a large pitcher. Add water and stir. Juice one lime into the pitcher and stir to mix. Taste. Add the additional lime if desired. (I always add the juice of two limes.) Taste. Add sugar by the tablespoon if necessary. Chill until ready to serve.
- When ready to serve, place mint sprigs and ice (optional) in serving glasses. Pour in agua fresca. Enjoy!

I’ve been pureeing blackberries, straining them, adding lime and mixing with soda water (and gin if it’s an evening drink!). Summer refresher and cocktail mix in one!
I’ve been on a green smoothie kick lately–spinach, carrots, bananas, oj, pineapple, and a little flax or chia seeds.
I’d love one! Any sort of smoothie with mangoes and yogurt is a summer favorite 🙂
Oh my goodness! I want one too 🙂 I love your yellow watermelon, beautiful. I’ve been drinking a lot of water with lemon, cucumber and mint.
Ooh, I’m a dietetics student so I know the importance of staying hydrated while practicing food safety, and of drinking healthy and fresh juices, and this bottle looks like just what I’ve been looking for. I love a classic apple, ginger, celery and carrot juice. Nothing to crazy, but simple and wonderful for summer.
I would love one of these! My favorite smoothie lately is frozen cherries and blueberries blended with coconut milk.
Yellow watermelon was such a surprise to my family the first time my mom bought one thinking it was a regular red watermelon. To this day I’m not sure if it actually did taste slightly different or if it was all in our heads!
I don’t do smoothies a lot, but I do drink a lot of water…and I make the occasional cocktail for my older brother!
I am really into anything infused with mango lately. I even enjoy them in green smoothies.
I would love one of the bottles, I like my drinks out of glass anytime over plastic or metal. Yellow watermelon is great but still my eyes can’t believe its watermelon.
I throw in whatever I find in the freezer… yesterday it was broccoli, strawberries and blueberries, with some almond milk and plain Greek yogurt.
Mint Lemonade, my absolute favorite drink.
Banana, strawberries, yogurt, and ice in a blender!
Awesome giveaway! I have been eyeing a Lifefactory water bottle for a while now. I love the fact that it keeps water’s original taste. If I had the extra money to buy one I would in a heartbeat! Until then, I’m stuck with my stainless steel bottle. 🙂
I am not one for smoothies but I would like to use it for water..I dont drink as much as I should for many of the reasons you listed above but now that I am ill alot (fibromyalgia) I really need to drink what is recommended to try and feel the least bit healthy for my sake as well as my family’s!!! Good luck to all & thank you AK for the giveaway!!
Watermelon, mint and cucumbers. I am trying a new recipe this week!
What a perfect way to takenit to work. Thank you for the opportunity.
I’ve been making smoothie popsicles all summer:
stone fruit of choice (peach, plum, cherry, nectarine, no need to peel)
a dollop of Greek yogurt
a *tiny* smidgeon of honey if plum skins are extra-tart
Puree, then freeze. The kids will drink it as smoothies, or eat them like candy as popsicles. And the best part about this no-added-liquid recipe is that the popsicle sticks will stand straight up in the paper cups all on their own until they freeze.
I like just plain old fashion water
That bottle would be perfect for ginger lemonade with some orange slices and mint!
I made some amazing raspberry/blueberry lemonade with local GA berries – would love to drink it and my daily water out of a Lifefactory glass bottle!
That Fresca looks so refreshing right about now!
I don’t have a clever drink idea Ali. Sorry. I’m mostly a throw a lime or cucumber slice in the water kind of a girl. 🙂
I really, really could use this! I had an old metal SIGG bottle, but I forgot it in the trunk of my friend’s car… and couldn’t get it back for a week. Needless to say, I refuse to open the bottle because I’m quite afraid of what might be growing in there…
If I had one of these pretty glass bottles, I wouldn’t have this problem; I’d also have a water bottle again. 😛
The first thing I’d put in this is a beet, ginger, and cilantro detox juice. I think it would look quite pretty in one of these!
xx St. Heather
I absolutely love these bottles! I love to drink just plain old water out of glass, but I’d also fill one up with a kale and fruit smoothie.
Oh th at looks amazing and I just happen to have everything on hand!
I’ve been making lots of simple smoothies with summer berries, avocados, bananas, and European-style yogurt for me and my little guy to share. These bottles are so fab!
I love to make strawberry banana smoothies!
I went out and bought a Cuisinart….I’m sooooo excited! Watermelon agua fresca here I come! These bottles are pretty cool looking….I’m going to check them out!
i am not a smoothie drinker, maybe i need to finally get on board?
These bottles sound incredible. I love simple, fresh lemon or lime water & I would definitely make some to put into my Lifefactory bottle! Thanks for the hence to win one.
these bottles sound great!
