Watermelon Agua Fresca with Lime and Mint

Remember last week when I brattily exclaimed, “I want one!” after seeing my auntie Marcy’s Lifefactory glass bottle? Well, guess what? I got one. And guess what else? I have one for one of you, too, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Upon returning from Albany, I started researching Lifefactory, and it came as no surprise that one of the company’s co-founders, Daren Joy, is an award-winning designer and architect.
In a video on the site, Daren briefly discusses his design process and observes that “there is a connection that gets formed almost immediately,” noting that people “know they love [the bottle] right when they first touch it.” Perhaps my reaction wasn’t so bratty after all: the instant desire to have one was simply the sign of successful design.
As I suspected, I am loving my Lifefactory glass bottle. After a week of heavy use, I have yet to open my shoulder bag to find my phone lying in a pool of water — success! — and I have yet to find myself at the sink trying to scrub away a fungal smell from the opening — success! The glass delivers such a clean, pure taste. Moreover, thanks to the silicone sleeve, the bottle has survived several crash tests — the kids are as drawn to the bottle as I am — down our asphalt driveway.
The more I read about the founders and their philosophy, the more taken I become. Pam Marcus, Lifefactory’s other co-founder, worked as a pediatric physical therapist and feeding specialist for 17 years. Her concerns about the presence of harmful chemicals and plastics in infant feeding systems inspired her to create a line of glass baby bottles.
Not only are the bottles BPA-, BPS-, and phthalate-free, they are designed to “perform for years to come” — I love this. The line of bottles now extends to toddlers and adults, but before I start sounding like a bad infomercial, I’ll stop here and let you poke around the Lifefactory site yourself. Go on, that perfect water bottle is just a click away.
Now for the giveaway: Lifefactory will send one of you (US shipping only) one of their beautiful, glass, chemical-free bottles for water, juice and smoothies. Just leave a comment below. I’d love to hear what juices and smoothies you have been concocting these days. I’ve been on a watermelon-agua-fresca kick. On Sunday, I picked up two large watermelons at the Stafford farmers’ market, and, thanks to my new glass bottle, I have been enjoying agua fresca on the go ever since. I have never felt more stylish or hydrated in my life. Thank you, Lifefactory.

- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 2 servings
Description
Adapted from: The Garden of Eden
Ingredients
- 8 cups watermelon, cubed and puréed (approximately 6 cups after blending)
- 4 cups sparkling water or tap water (I use sparkling)
- 1 to 2 limes
- sugar to taste, depending on the sweetness of the watermelon
- mint sprigs for serving
Instructions
- In a food processor or blender, whizz the watermelon to a purée. It’s best to do this in two batches. Strain mixture into a large pitcher. Add water and stir. Juice one lime into the pitcher and stir to mix. Taste. Add the additional lime if desired. (I always add the juice of two limes.) Taste. Add sugar by the tablespoon if necessary. Chill until ready to serve.

I’ve been drinking a lot of peach lemonade with sparkling water and mint sprigs from the garden. Would love to do so in a new Lifefactory bottle! 🙂
I found a box of Trader Joe’s yuzu tisane tea packets in my pantry the other day…on their own, I thought they weren’t the greatest, so I tried mixing a few with some plain steeped rooibos tea. Stuck the pitcher in the fridge and was surprisingly pleased a few hours later.
I’m still experimenting with different types of kombucha. So refreshing and energizing in the summer heat.
I like any smoothie my daughter makes and she likes to experiment! Anything with strawberries is my favorite! Thanks for the giveaway.
We’ve been drinking a lot of lemonade lately with berries of all varieties! Thanks for this great giveaway!
I’m lazy, so I just squirt some Mio lemonade into my ice water. The water here is very hard, so drinking it straight is simply out of the question for me; can’t stand the nasty taste. Maybe drinking it out of a 22-oz purple flip cap would make it better, and if not, I’d look soooo cool drinking my Mio 🙂
I live in Tucson and always have a bottle of water nearby. I like water with a slice of lemon and/or fresh mint. It is such a plus that Lifefactory bottles are glass! Thanks for this opportunity.
I love to make a smoothie with avocado, peaches, and lemon verbena leaves. Yum. Would love to drink it from such a pretty glass…….
We drink mostly water in our house. But when we want something different, we make lemonade and add whatever fruits we have on hand. Recently, it’s been locally grown peaches. Thank you for the giveaway.
I have a nice watermelon in the refrigerator, and will be trying Agua Fresca as soon as I finish this comment! Would love to have what appears to be an outstanding bottle, as described by you. Thanks for your wonderful posts.
Did strawberries, sparkling water and orange juice…blend and drain through cheesecloth for the seed removal! Great with a few blueberries for color!!!!
Thanks for all your work in this!!! love the bottles….
The bottles look great. I would love to have one. It would be a great way to get my daily water intake. So easy to take along with me!!!
I do water water water (and, an occasional home brewed iced tea) 🙂
These bottles look amazing! Thanks for sharing such a cool product. I’m loving my morning smoothies this summer that I make with vegan protein powder, super greens, almond milk and a handful of frozen fruit (bananas, mixed berries or peaches work great!) I cut and prep the fruit in individual containers and freeze. In the morning I can just reach into the freezer and grab one serving and throw it all into the magic bullet! And viola you have an awesome breakfast!
Love your blog – always inspiring!
Rhubarb Fizz – syrup made of rhubarb juice, add a little stevia, and some sparkling water. Low cal and refreshing. Rhubarb is one of my favorite things to eat.
Those bottles look amazing!!! I would probably have to put some “juicy water”, as we call it, in there to share with my daughter. Water with strawberries and mint or maybe cucumbers.
I’ve been making a lot of smoothies with the fruit from my csa share.
What a lovely bottle! Thanks for doing a great giveaway.
On these super hot days I’ve been slicing up a cucumber and adding it to my ice water. So simple and refreshing!
Okay…I just finished a 7 day fruit/veg fast and I can juice!
My favorite is pineapple and peach chilled and waiting after I worked outside.
Need to remove the pulp in the juice machine after half of the pineapple.
With my machine some of the pulp makes it into the glass, but it seems like a smoothie then. MMMMMMMMMM……….
I WANT A LIFEFACTORY BOTTLE SO I AM NOT HAULING A CLUMSY QUART MASON JAR WITH ME EVERYWHERE!
I love water with fresh mint and a lemon slice. So refreshing!
Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
Meyer lemonade from my backyard has been super refreshing this summer.
I love just water with lime and mint. But if I win that bottle I’m going to have to try your drink.
Pomegranate/blueberry juice + carbonated water = yum!
the Lifefactory Bottle looks amazing! i am a Pastry Chef, currently focussing on Marmalades, and all sorts of Canning (so i am always surrounded by glass jars..) however, i have yet to find the perfect travel jar-and it looks like Lifefactory fits the bill – i would love to have one! thanks so much..
I have been meaning to get a glass water bottle – and this one looks beautiful (and for a water bottle)! And what a delicious agua fresca recipe. I will have to make it!
What a great giveaway – I would love to have one of these bottles. I am so done with hauling these plastic things around and having them leak all over. I’ve been reluctant to carry anything but plain water due to the stickiness factor if it should spill. 🙂 Now to try out your watermelon agua fresca, which sounds like summer in a glass (or bottle)!
We love these bottles! We would also love one more to make our beach picnics complete!!
I have been dying to make the Watermelon Lime Margaritas (with watermelon ice cubes!) I saw at minimalist baker!
