Watermelon Agua Fresca with Lime and Mint

Remember last week when I brattily exclaimed, “I want one!” after seeing my auntie Marcy’s Lifefactory glass bottle? Well, guess what? I got one. And guess what else? I have one for one of you, too, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Upon returning from Albany, I started researching Lifefactory, and it came as no surprise that one of the company’s co-founders, Daren Joy, is an award-winning designer and architect.
In a video on the site, Daren briefly discusses his design process and observes that “there is a connection that gets formed almost immediately,” noting that people “know they love [the bottle] right when they first touch it.” Perhaps my reaction wasn’t so bratty after all: the instant desire to have one was simply the sign of successful design.
As I suspected, I am loving my Lifefactory glass bottle. After a week of heavy use, I have yet to open my shoulder bag to find my phone lying in a pool of water — success! — and I have yet to find myself at the sink trying to scrub away a fungal smell from the opening — success! The glass delivers such a clean, pure taste. Moreover, thanks to the silicone sleeve, the bottle has survived several crash tests — the kids are as drawn to the bottle as I am — down our asphalt driveway.
The more I read about the founders and their philosophy, the more taken I become. Pam Marcus, Lifefactory’s other co-founder, worked as a pediatric physical therapist and feeding specialist for 17 years. Her concerns about the presence of harmful chemicals and plastics in infant feeding systems inspired her to create a line of glass baby bottles.
Not only are the bottles BPA-, BPS-, and phthalate-free, they are designed to “perform for years to come” — I love this. The line of bottles now extends to toddlers and adults, but before I start sounding like a bad infomercial, I’ll stop here and let you poke around the Lifefactory site yourself. Go on, that perfect water bottle is just a click away.
Now for the giveaway: Lifefactory will send one of you (US shipping only) one of their beautiful, glass, chemical-free bottles for water, juice and smoothies. Just leave a comment below. I’d love to hear what juices and smoothies you have been concocting these days. I’ve been on a watermelon-agua-fresca kick. On Sunday, I picked up two large watermelons at the Stafford farmers’ market, and, thanks to my new glass bottle, I have been enjoying agua fresca on the go ever since. I have never felt more stylish or hydrated in my life. Thank you, Lifefactory.

Description
Adapted from: The Garden of Eden

- In a food processor or blender, whizz the watermelon to a purée. It’s best to do this in two batches. Strain mixture into a large pitcher. Add water and stir. Juice one lime into the pitcher and stir to mix. Taste. Add the additional lime if desired. (I always add the juice of two limes.) Taste. Add sugar by the tablespoon if necessary. Chill until ready to serve.

I make my own blueberry iced tea- I just sub a couple of blueberry tea bags in with my black tea and it makes a wonderfully subtle blueberry flavor.
I have recently been making pineapple, blueberry, greek yogurt smoothies. Sooo good and if I was drinking them out of an orange lifefactory bottle!! Love them!
Time to give up the plastics and move onto glass. I’ve thought of the quart jar idea, but these Lifefactory bottles are classier looking. Very attractive and I like that the silicone protects the glass.
All I drink is water! This would be handy!
I want one of those bottles. They are so cute! Here in Oklahoma we makes lots of flavored tea: mint tea, peach tea, strawberry tea. If its sweet, I add it to tea and take it with me!

love the bottle! i want one!!!! 🙂
My favorite smoothie is made of just parsley and mint with lots of ice water – blend in a Vitamix.
I have been making Mango Smoothies. I first pick the fresh ones from my
mango in the front yard. Then let it ripen fully on the kitchen counter.
Peel it, cut into cubes and freeze cubes on cookie sheet in freezer.
When frozen hard put cubes in blender and blend with 1/2-3/4 cup of
lemon/lime soda. When smooth pour in glass and drink.
Can be done with ripe store mangoes too. Wonderful on hot day!
I want one of those niffy bottles-too cute-and all of us in Florida need one.
This summer has been the summer of smoothies. I have literally been blending up anything I have on hand! This bottle would be the perfect way to take smoothies on the go!
I usually stick with water with lemon, but I would definitely branch out if I had such a stylish bottle to carry my drink in!
Lost my favorite workout bottle. Would love to replace it with the free one you are offering. I never use anything fancy with my water. What ever I have on hand: cucumbers, lemon, limes, peaches …..quick, easy and off to the gym.
I’ve been drinking water with cucumber slices.
I like to make my own chia agua frescas–lime, watermelon, coconut. Cheaper than buying the pre-mixed ones at the store. And they give you amazing energy.
I make iced lavender/mint tea and have it in the morning instead of my usual hot tea. I also have been making smoothies with almond milk and frozen wild blueberries. Mmmmmm.
I’m a color junkie, so these bottles are brilliant. Also appreciate the practical features built into them. I would use one for smoothies, or even for spring water on the go. Know I would like it better than my stainless steel one! For smoothies, I like to combine fruits and veggies, for example kale, carrot, banana, blueberry and blackberry, with ginger.
I made cold brewed ice tea a lot during the summer. Just take a pitcher of water and add several tea bags (your favorite flavor – – pomegranite white tea is one of our favorites). Put it in the fridge and immediately the tea will start flavoring the water. Wait a few hours and you will have a delicious and easy flavored tea. If you choose add some sweetner, but we drink it without. I think this technique would work great in a Lifefactory glass bottle!
I generally do water with lemon, and and definitely going to try your watermelon-agua-fresca.
Always love everything I see on this blog. I Drink tons of plain water. Nothing tastes better!
I can’t wait to try the watermelon-agua-fresca! I need to work on drinking more water.
I have been drinking a lot of water infused with lemon and also Kiwi Strawberry Smoothies.
I’m on a iced green tea kick this summer, but I’ve been trying variations like adding fresh fruit chunks (peaches, strawberries, mango). Refreshing in the desert where hydration is a constant.
My favorite drink lately is iced tea brewed with fresh mint sweetened with a little vanilla flavored simple syrup and a splash of half and half.
Thank you so much for this offer. I would LOVE to have one of these lovely glass bottles. Perhaps it will be an incentive to drink more water. At almost 80 I have trouble remembering to drink enough. I like to add freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice to my water.
Hibiscus tea with chia seeds, lime juice and a little agave
I’m a girl of simple tastes – I drink just water, plain and pure. I would love to have one of these bottles – I used to favor a brand with a straw and complicated camp, but it’s hard to clean and has become gross over the years and I’ve been looking to switch to something like the Lifefactory classic cap. 🙂
The one thing that I miss from my country, Spain, is my mom’s gazpacho. So I use mine for the gazpacho I make every other day.
I have been brewing fresh mint tea daily with mint from my garden. It is simply refreshing on these hot summer days!
i love the look of those bottles!!!!
Oh – thank you for this wonderful giveaway! I have been LOVING green smoothies. Usually frozen banana, a little yogurt and lots of lime juice and dark leafy greens. Often a variation of this recipe: [link no longer active]
I drink iced green tea with whatever fruit is on hand — strawberries, kiwi, lime, raspberries. Love the bottles!
