Watermelon Agua Fresca with Lime and Mint

Remember last week when I brattily exclaimed, “I want one!” after seeing my auntie Marcy’s Lifefactory glass bottle? Well, guess what? I got one. And guess what else? I have one for one of you, too, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Upon returning from Albany, I started researching Lifefactory, and it came as no surprise that one of the company’s co-founders, Daren Joy, is an award-winning designer and architect.
In a video on the site, Daren briefly discusses his design process and observes that “there is a connection that gets formed almost immediately,” noting that people “know they love [the bottle] right when they first touch it.” Perhaps my reaction wasn’t so bratty after all: the instant desire to have one was simply the sign of successful design.
As I suspected, I am loving my Lifefactory glass bottle. After a week of heavy use, I have yet to open my shoulder bag to find my phone lying in a pool of water — success! — and I have yet to find myself at the sink trying to scrub away a fungal smell from the opening — success! The glass delivers such a clean, pure taste. Moreover, thanks to the silicone sleeve, the bottle has survived several crash tests — the kids are as drawn to the bottle as I am — down our asphalt driveway.
The more I read about the founders and their philosophy, the more taken I become. Pam Marcus, Lifefactory’s other co-founder, worked as a pediatric physical therapist and feeding specialist for 17 years. Her concerns about the presence of harmful chemicals and plastics in infant feeding systems inspired her to create a line of glass baby bottles.
Not only are the bottles BPA-, BPS-, and phthalate-free, they are designed to “perform for years to come” — I love this. The line of bottles now extends to toddlers and adults, but before I start sounding like a bad infomercial, I’ll stop here and let you poke around the Lifefactory site yourself. Go on, that perfect water bottle is just a click away.
Now for the giveaway: Lifefactory will send one of you (US shipping only) one of their beautiful, glass, chemical-free bottles for water, juice and smoothies. Just leave a comment below. I’d love to hear what juices and smoothies you have been concocting these days. I’ve been on a watermelon-agua-fresca kick. On Sunday, I picked up two large watermelons at the Stafford farmers’ market, and, thanks to my new glass bottle, I have been enjoying agua fresca on the go ever since. I have never felt more stylish or hydrated in my life. Thank you, Lifefactory.

- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 2 servings
Description
Adapted from: The Garden of Eden
Ingredients
- 8 cups watermelon, cubed and puréed (approximately 6 cups after blending)
- 4 cups sparkling water or tap water (I use sparkling)
- 1 to 2 limes

- In a food processor or blender, whizz the watermelon to a purée. It’s best to do this in two batches. Strain mixture into a large pitcher. Add water and stir. Juice one lime into the pitcher and stir to mix. Taste. Add the additional lime if desired. (I always add the juice of two limes.) Taste. Add sugar by the tablespoon if necessary. Chill until ready to serve.

Awesome bottles! I’ve been making a great peach smoothie lately with fresh peaches, orange juice, and yogurt.
I love those bottles!! I’ve been currently making simple strawberry and orange smoothies, with a little ice and a little stevia.. tastes just like candy!
I have a huge love for glass bottles of any kind, plus these are just so stinkin’ cute. I’ve been trying to work through all my raspberries and blueberries lately!
Been on a kiwi banana w/ spinach and kale smoothie kick, love these glass bottles
I love cold-brewed tea and coffee in the summer, but this year my favorite is water kefir flavored with fresh summer fruit!
I live in florida so we have strawberry and citrus in abundance for smoothies and drinks 🙂
motly just standard smoothies – yogurt with whatever berries are on hand and some oats.
I just found a juicer in my dads garage, so this week, I’ve been on a juice craze!!! My favorite this week is carrot/apple juice. I’d love a glass bottle, I’ve actually been searching for one, since I threw my other bottle away when I put beet juice in it and color never washed out.
Strawberry-banana-spinach smoothies! With agave and ground flax seed. I add the spinach last so that I get that nice vibrant green color instead of the icky brown.
I love the feel of a glass bottle against my lips, but have not yet found one that doesn’t leak in my bag!
The fresca sounds extremely refreshing for these hot summer nights.
All berries all the time! Mix with a little yogurt, and it’s good to go!
sounds awesome! I’ve been drinking a lot of sparkling kale lemonade lately, and it’s delicious.
Mostly i just like filtered water with organic lemon slices or chilled mint tea.
Hi,
I never saw yellow watermelon, though I’m not a big fan of water melon, the colour looks inviting. Hopefully I may find it soon.
Thank you.
Blueberry smoothies!
I have been making blueberry, banana and tofu smoothies. So delicious!
We’ve been making juice blends with our juicer. So far we really like the combinations of strawberry & cantaloupe and mango & strawberry.
I want one of these so much – saw them at Whole Foods and just couldn’t afford it this week. Hubby likes it too. Does the silicone sleeve come off if little sticky hands use it? 🙂 Loving green monsters – you’re welcome Honey 🙂
love these bottles! and this drink sound so refreshing on a hot, hot summer day like today!
just plain old water for me, please! What a well thought out product. Hope I win!
I love mango lime smoothies!
Strawberry mint smoothies with coconut water instead of juice or yogurt. The coconut water adds just the right amount of moisture to blend the fruit, but still tastes so light and refreshing. The mint makes it taste more like a cocktail.
This summer, my go to has been water infused with herbs and citrus. Easy peasy, keeps nice in the fridge, and I’m super-hydrated. But usually, I’m a mango-smoothie sort of gal.
Love my sparkling water with lots of ice and torn mint from my herb garden. Have to have that bottle….I waaaant one toooo!!!!
Since moving to Arizona, I drink water all day long. I bring a 24 oz cold cup to work in the morning and refill it at least 3 times during the day. Although, I think I would prefer a glass bottle, to avoid any nasty chemicals leaking out of my cup! These bottles are gorgeous!
Attractive bottle
Is the contest still open? I’d love one of these bottles for toting water around (umm, boring, I know, but I’m a thirsty girl).
Blackberry gin fizz!
I mostly been making them with the fruit from my garden, so strawberry and blueberries 🙂 Although I have been curious about the ‘green’ smoothie recipes I’ve been seeing everywhere.
I just cut up a watermelon yesterday. I am going to have make up some of this beverage tomorrow before I begin tiling the front entryway. I might add some raspberries too. Thanks for the recipe.
