A Few Gift Ideas From Food52’s Provisions // Plus A Giveaway: Hedley & Bennett Apron

Hi Friends,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I write today with a few gift ideas from the beautiful kitchen and home shop, Provisions by Food52. If any of you have visited the Provisions shop you’ve likely struggled to pull yourself away, to stay focused, to resist buying just a teensy tiny something.
From vintage pie servers to letterpress coasters to fluted stoneware tart pans, every item is striking in both form and function, screaming: You need me in your kitchen. Immediately.
It can be overwhelming, but what is especially nice about the Provisions site is the Collections page, which will help you stay focused. There are collections dedicated to individuals — The Baker, The New Cook, The Cocktail Connoisseur, The Gardener, The Coffee Lover — but also to subjects — stocking stuffers, cookbooks, lighting. And, of course, there are a selection of items that can be found exclusively on Provisions.
UPDATE: Giveaway is closed. Congrats to Renee. Finally, Provisions is generously giving one of you the Hedley and Bennett apron (yes, the apron lady’s apron!) pictured above. Leave a comment below to enter the giveaway. Please tell me the greatest success/biggest hit of your Thanksgiving Day feast. Hope you all are taking a break from the kitchen.
PS: What to do with all of those leftovers.

A few favorites I have collected over the years: placemats (seen in this post), vintage silverware, bud vases, cutting boards, mini bowls:
This is that Turk Forged Iron Fry Pan (gift #1) with the Canal House Chicken with Lemon from the Genius Recipes Cookbook (gift #2). I swear this pan browns and crisps meat better than any other,
and it makes the best eggs,:
and you barely have to clean it:
A quick wipe with a paper towel usually does the job. Occasionally I need to give it a gentle scrub.
I love my cake bunting:
and my PieBox:

I didn’t cook a thing for Thanksgiving this year. The cranberries at our meal were delicious. I think I’d like to replicate them at home soon.
Our thanksgiving was in October, but I did recently make Alice Medrich’s pumpkin chiffon pie. It was fantastic, and despite my lack of the required pan, it turned out great!
The big success this year was being invited to a new friend’s house for Thanksgiving dinner. My husband is deployed and we have recently moved to a new state, far from family and friends. It was so wonderful to be welcomed by some new friends here.
Just as big was the apple pie I made using the pastry recipe from Rose Lawrence. I’m sure we’ll be welcome all the time now!
thanksgiving’s biggest hit was probably the apple pie with whipped cream. Or maybe the mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy. yum!
made pork ribs this year and they turned out wonderfully!
The roasted garlic mashed potatoes and turkey gravy were my personal favorite! The pecan chocolate chip pie that I made today is high on the list too! Jeff and our granddaughter Becca raved about everything! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Ali!! Now on to Christmas plans! ;). XOX!
My 18# perfect turkey with Ras el Hanout spiced crispy skin. Starting with a high temperature that gets lower throughout the cooking process, it creates a super crispy skin. Some added moisture to the bottom of the pan lets it roast and steam, so the white meat is very tender. I stuff it as well – that is also my specialty.
No brining.
My biggest success was my Sweet Potato Pie per my daughter!
Well, our barbequed turkey was lovely, and so was the artichoke parmesan dressing. Also made some really nice cranberry chutney.
The only thing I cooked this year was an orange, almond, and olive oil cake. Fortunately it was good!
I was commissioned to make a pecan pie for a friend to take to his Thanksgiving feast. But since I didn’t know anything about pecan pies, I made two different test pies the day before, took them to work, and let everyone give me their feedback. The pre-Thanksgiving pie taste test was probably the best part of the holiday (and the work day) for everyone involved.
I have been eating some for breakfast and now taking for lunch to work.
Well, the biggest hit I have to say would be the turkey from a farm near my sister’s house. The legs were huge and it was delicious! The liver pate was up there too. As you can imagine it wasn’t as successful with the under 12 crowd so I had to list the turkey first!
The roasted Brussel sprouts were a huge hit this year. They disappeared quickly.
Bon Appetit’s cornbread and sausage dressing was a hit!
the biggest success was the potato and leek gratin, even after it seemed to be a flop when cooking. Also, the Turkey stock I made was perfect!
Hi Alexandra!
I spent my thanksgiving with my Venezuelan boyfriend’s family who ended up incorporating a latino twist to the tastiest Thanksgiving feast of my life. However, the greatest hit was the classic apple pie. Together we made the most delicious pie – with your crust recipe and a French take on preparing the apples using only butter and sugar to heighten the flavors of the sweet apples. This made a perfect compliment to the flaky crust. Everyone asked me for the recipe later and were raving about the presentation! Thank you!
Sweet potatoes with a ‘crust’ of toasted coconut and pecans.
I made a lot of dishes for Tday, but the biggest hit was a gingersnap-crust pumpkin cheesecake!
Our biggest successes were pecan pie and ak’s mother’s peasant bread (as rolls). We live abroad, and sharing our Thanksgiving traditions with people for the first time has become one of our favorite holiday celebrations of the year.
Our biggest hit was also the ginger snap crust pumpkin cheesecake with salted caramel.
Biggest hit was the entree. We had a non-traditional dinner since we were visiting my in-laws at a camp ground and hiked several hours prior to dinner. We had potato and cauliflower curry with whole wheat flat bread. It was easy to heat up after the hike and deeply satisfying.
The sweet potato casserole with a brown sugar-pecan-butter crumble. I’ve made it for years, and I’ve noticed that when the sweet potatoes are cured, the casserole is ten times better. I got the taters I used in November late in the summer, and they’ve been wrinkling up nicely since.

greatest success…husband made entire meal (i was down with a high fever)…his first ever…and it was awesome…from seasoned turkey to mashed sweet potatoes to sides to gravy…awesome!
My biggest Thanksgiving success so far is my butternut squash ‘pumpkin’ pie. Everyone loves it because it’s less sweet than the store bought version, even the one from the can. What I love most about it is I grow the butternut squash every year so there’s that much more love put into it.
The biggest hit…was the gravy, actually. On the turkey, on the stuffing, on the potatoes, on rice…it was the glue that brought the meal together.
pumpkin cheeesecake
a banana cream tart.
craberry sauce … it is so easy but way better then my families usual canned stuff
The greatest Thanksgiving hit (that wasn’t Ronnie’s pie using Kabocha squash) was Yotam Ottolenghi’s slow-cooked chickpeas on toast, totally worth the 5 hour cooking time!

p.s. Love the photos from your Thanksgiving, so pretty.
